BRUSSELS (IQNA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a bloc of 57 Muslim countries, has urged the international community, especially the European Union (EU), to press Israel to end its ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The OIC ambassadors in Brussels held a press conference on Monday, where they read a statement calling for an immediate and comprehensive cease-fire and an end to Israeli aggression against Gaza.

They said that the EU has a vital role in holding Israel accountable for the war crimes it has committed in Gaza, and that Israel's attacks on Gaza cannot be justified as self-defense.

The statement also stressed that the only way to achieve lasting peace in the region is to establish a Palestinian state with al-Quds as its capital.

The statement came after a joint Arab-Islamic summit in Saudi Arabia, which also demanded an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid.
