IQNA – A rally was held in New Haven, US state of Connecticut, to call for a ceasefire and an end to the Israeli regime’s brutal war on the Gaza Strip.

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protestors marched through the streets of New Haven Saturday evening, shutting down streets as they called for a ceasefire.

This is the second major demonstration to happen this week after an Israeli regime air strike hit a refugee camp in the western part of Rafah last weekend.

“Today we see that Rafah, even though It bombarded in the past, now effectively no longer safe for any of the 1.5 million people taking refuge in Rafah,” said Muhammed Elsabbal, an organizer with the American Muslims for Pro-Palestinian Connecticut Chapter.

The group first gathered on the New Haven Green. Many protestors wore the keffiyeh, a traditional Arab headdress that’s become a symbol for the Free Palestine movement. Adam Bulmash, a member of the Hartford Jewish Organizing Collective and CT Social Workers 4 Palestine, wore a keffiyeh in solidarity.

“We are the Jewish people and our history has told us it’s our moral imperative to stand against anyone who would oppress another, even if that includes our own community,” he said.

Marchers made their way up through Chapel Street then turned onto York Street, where they stopped to chant outside Yale as alumni returned for reunions.

“We will not stop, we will not rest. Disclose, divest, We will not stop, we will not rest,” the group chanted.

Elsabbal said protestors will not stop organizing until there is Palestinian liberation.

“[We] are going to do everything they possibly can to tell our legislators and tell those in power that we’re not going to stop and Gaza needs that ceasefire now,” he said.

The protest was peaceful. Police blocked traffic as the group walked the streets for an hour before returning to the green for the last chant.
