Mehdi Pirhadi, the head of the health, environment and urban services commission of Tehran’s Islamic City Council, said the city council passed a resolution a few years ago demanding the construction of a Quran Gate in response to Quran desecrations in a number of European countries.
He said the Municipality of Tehran has been tasked with holding an international competition on the design of the gate.
The idea was to have architects from different parts of the world, especially Muslim countries, contribute to the design and construction of the site, he stated.

There have been meetings with veteran and young expert in the fields of architecture and urban development in this regard.
Pirhadi noted that meetings have also been held with religious scholars and Quran researchers in order to use their views for best implementing the project.
