Exhibition of Persian Calligraphy Opens in Ankara to Mark Iran-Turkey Cultural Ties

IQNA – An exhibition featuring Persian calligraphy and calligraphic paintings inspired by the mystical poetry of Rumi commenced yesterday at Ankara University's Faculty of Music and Fine Arts.

Organized collaboratively by the Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Ankara University, the exhibition will remain open for a week. 

The event marks the beginning of the Iran-Turkey Cultural Year and aims to strengthen artistic and cultural exchanges between the two nations. In attendance at the opening ceremony were senior officials from Ankara University, art faculty professors, diplomats, and cultural representatives.

Amin Mokhtari, on official with Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR), praised the collaboration that made the event possible. "This exhibition is the culmination of months of dedication by our talented artists. It showcases 40 selected pieces out of over 100 works, reflecting styles such as Nastaliq, Shekasteh Nastaliq, Siyah Mashq, and traditional miniature painting," Mokhtari noted.

"These artworks beautifully capture the essence of Rumi's timeless poetry and highlight the deep connection between Iranian mysticism and Islamic art," he said.   

Mokhtari also emphasized the potential for further cultural cooperation, stating, "We are eager to expand joint projects with Ankara University to enrich the cultural heritage of both nations."

Seyyed Qasem Nazemi, Iran's Cultural Counselor in Ankara, pointed to the significance of the exhibition during the Iran-Turkey Cultural Year. "This event reflects the shared cultural heritage of our countries. It also underscores the commitment of cultural officials in fostering closer ties," Nazemi said. 

Professor Barış Demirci, Vice President of Ankara University's Faculty of Fine Arts, expressed gratitude to Iranian artists and organizers, saying, "Such initiatives strengthen the historical bonds between our peoples and enhance mutual understanding. Our university is ready to host more collaborative events."
