Hosted by Malaysia’s Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), the 65th MTHQA is taking place from August 2 to 9 at WTCKL, with 72 participants from approximately 50 countries competing in Quran recitation and memorisation categories. Forty contestants will compete in recitation, while 32 will take part in memorisation.
The symposium on August 7 will be a highlight of MTHQA, bringing together international figures such as Sheikh Salah bin Muhammad al‑Budair, Imam of Masjid Nabawi, along with academics from Malaysia and India.
Its aim is to strengthen public understanding of Quranic values and encourage Muslims to incorporate them into daily life, as explained by JAKIM Director-General Datuk Sirajuddin Suhaimee.
Attended by around 1,500 participants—including muftis, Islamic scholars, and lay members of the public—the symposium will feature keynote addresses, forums, and executive sessions.
Topics will focus on the role of the Quran in shaping ethical and spiritual leadership. The opening ceremony will be officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, while Sheikh al‑Budair delivers the keynote address.

As part of the wider MTHQA program, Malaysia is conducting a creative cross-border recitation initiative—“Longest Quran Recitation on International Train”—from KL Sentral to Hatyai, aiming for recognition in the Malaysia Book of Records.
The theme for this year’s assembly is “Developing a MADANI Ummah,” underlining Malaysia’s broader aim to build a harmonious, ethical society grounded in Quranic principles.
