IQNA – The number of Muslim converts in Selangor, Malaysia, last year exceeded 1,600, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) said.

Malaysia’s Selangor records 1,675 new Muslim converts in 2025, credits NGOs and mosques for rise

A total of 1,675 individuals embraced Islam in Selangor in 2025, reflecting the effectiveness of the state’s systematic conversion management framework, said MAIS chairman Dato' Salehuddin Saidin.

He said 772 individuals, or 82.1 per cent of the total, registered through the Conversion Management Centers (PPP), comprising mosque institutions and Islamic non-governmental organizations (PIBK).

The remainder registered through the MAIS headquarters and district Islamic religious offices (PAID).

“In recognition of their role in facilitating and streamlining the registration process in accordance with established procedures, MAIS's PPPs will receive RM94,000 as a token of appreciation,” he said at the PPP 2026 Appreciation and Ukhwah Ceremony held at the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) building here today.

The ceremony also included the presentation of appreciation certificates to recipients for their commitment in strengthening conversion management efforts in the state.

According to Salehuddin, the contributions, funded through zakat allocations, were distributed to 41 PPPs, with each receiving between RM100 and RM24,400 based on the number of registrations handled throughout the year.

He said the contributions were aimed at encouraging and motivating PPPs that had efficiently managed conversion registrations throughout 2025.

“It also recognizes the important role played by these centers in assisting MAIS and the Selangor Zakat Board in safeguarding the welfare, protection and religious education of converts in the state."

Salehuddin said the Selangor branch of the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organization (PERKIM) was among the main recipients after recording the highest number of registrations, followed by the Hidayah Centre Foundation (HCF) and several other dakwah (propagation) organizations.

He added that MAIS currently operates 41 PPPs across Selangor to provide the public with easier and more effective access to guidance and conversion registration services.

“The centers also play a vital role in providing consultation to individuals intending to embrace Islam, ensuring the decision is made willingly and without coercion.

“We always ensure every procedure is properly followed so that the welfare of converts is protected from the very first day they register under the supervision of MAIS,” he said.
