Thousands of Husseini mourners attended the traditional ceremony, carrying lit torches on their shoulders, and marched towards the shrine of the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (AS).
It is one of the most magnificent mourning ceremonies of the nights of Muharram.
The ceremony is held from the eighth night of Muharram until the night of Ashura.
During this ceremony, hundreds of lit torches carried by mourners, accompanied by the sounds of drums, cymbals, and the slogan “Labaok Ya Hussein,” illuminate the alleys and streets leading to the Alawi shrine.
The day of Ashura is the 10th day of the Islamic month of Muharram, and it is a day of mourning for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
