Iranian Qari Emphasizes Increasing Number of Arbaeen Quranic Programs
In an interview with IQNA, Hamidreza Ahmadi-Vafa, there is better reception by Arbaeen pilgrims of Quranic gatherings during the procession year after year.
This widespread popularity shows that the number of Quranic gatherings and prorgams along the Arbaeen walking route, especially in large Moukebs (service stations), should be increased, he stated.
The programs of the Arbaeen Quranic Convoy should focus on performing recitations, he said.
Ahmadi-Vafa, an Iranian internationally-acclaimed reciter, has been present in the country’s Arbaeen Quranic Convoy several times in recent years and has been closely involved in the Quranic activities of the largest public gathering in the world.
Relying on his field observations, he emphasized the unique potential of this great event for promoting the Quranic culture and considered focusing on the quantitative development of recitation gatherings to be the most important strategy for promoting Quranic activities during the Arbaeen pilgrimage.
“On the occasions when I had the opportunity to accompany this convoy, I clearly witnessed the widespread reception of the Quranic programs, especially the recitation sessions. This reception has not only not decreased, but has become more intense and widespread every year, and therefore, it is expected that the officials and those involved will provide the basis for holding more such gatherings in line with this public interest.”
Emphasizing the need to utilize all capacities, opportunities, and propagation facilities to introduce and strengthen Quranic circles on the Arbaeen walking route, he said, “Undoubtedly, in this great ritual, various other cultural programs will also be held, an important part of which is in the field of religious songs, such as eulogies, recitations, and elegy, and they have their own custodians. Therefore, it seems that the Arbaeen Quranic convoy should focus its main mission on the implementation of Quranic recitation programs.”
The Arbaeen mourning ceremony, which falls on August 4 this year, is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
It marks the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS).
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

The pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to the holy city.
Iran also sends a Quranic convoy, known as the Noor Convoy, to Iraq during the Arbaeen procession.
The members of Iran’s Noor Convoy perform different Quranic and religious programs, including recitation of the Quran, Adhan (call to prayers), and Tawasheeh, on the road between Najaf and Karbala and elsewhere during the Arbaeen march.
