TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 7th edition of “Haleef Al-Quran” (companion of the Quran) international cultural festival has been organized by the Astan (custodianship) of Zayd ibn Ali ibn Al-Hussein (AS) holy shrine in Babil Governorate, Iraq.

According to sotaliraq.com, the opening ceremony of the festival was held on September 28 with the participation of representatives from the holy sites of Iraq as well as researchers and academic figures of the country.

The program began with recitation of the Holy Quran’s verses followed by a speech by Alaa Al Yahya Mousawi, custodian of Zayd ibn Ali’s (AS) holy shrine.

He said that the program aims to introduce the character of Zayd ibn Ali (AS) and his uprising, which was a continuation of Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising.

Also speaking in the program was Izzuddin Hakim, the son of Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Sa’eed Hakim, a Shia source of emulation in Iraq.

Zayd ibn Ali (AS) was the son of Imam Sajjad (AS) and grandson of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Holy Prophet (PBUH). Zayd was born in Medina in 695.

Zayd was a revered and respected member of the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS). Scholars, Saints, Sufis and Imams alike, all spoke of him in respectable terms.

There is a narration that when describing Zayd, Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (AS) said: “Among us he was the best read in the Holy Qur'an, and the most knowledgeable about religion, and the most caring towards family and relatives.” Hence he was given the title “Haleef Al-Quran” (ally of the Quran).
