Egypt Set to Resume Quran Memorization Courses at Mosques

Due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, Egypt had earlier closed the courses.

According to Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa, Quran memorization classes will resume activities from early December.

Modern equipment will be used in the classes while also observing strict precautionary measures, he said, adding that grounds are now being prepared for the launching of classes as well as inviting approved Quran memorizers.

The minister noted that special places inside mosques will be allocated to teach Quran memorization to children provided that required equipment is purchased and their teachers are approved by the Ministry.

Earlier, Algeria also announced that it will reopen Quranic centers as the pandemic-related restrictions are eased. The 2021-2022 season of Quran learning officially started last week and nearly one million people have registered in the courses, said an Algerian official, adding, “This is an important figure and if conditions return to pre-covid days, the number may further significantly increase.”
