TEHRAN (IQNA) – Hezbollah’s deputy chief, Sheikh Naim Qassem, said the resistance movement will take part in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Lebanon with strength.

Sheikh Naim Qassem

Sheikh Qassem said in a speech that in the elections, it will be the people who determine who will represent them, Al-Manar reported.

He added that the purpose of competing in the elections is protecting Lebanon against the Zionist enemy and resolving problems and difficulties the Lebanese nation is facing in different economic, social and health areas.

The cleric said Hezbollah is aware that there is unprecedented international enthusiasm for the elections, adding that there are some moves by some parties who are confronting Hezbollah’s national project because they believe that the elections will lead to a large number of representatives that could change the equation.

He noted, though, that there will be a few new faces in the polls.

Sheikh Qassem added that Hezbollah’s electoral battle is for strong and influential presence in the country’s future and in serving the people.

The resistance group has no interest in who will be in the majority and the minority, he stated.

The criterion for participating in the elections is serving and protecting the people, he went on to say.

Lebanon’s parliamentary elections will be held in May 2022.
