TEHRAN (IQNA) – In separate statements, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Iraq’s Al-Nujaba expressed condolences over the demise of Shia Marja (source of emulation) Grand Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani.

The senior cleric passed away early on Tuesday in a hospital in Qom.

“The Islamic world and seminary schools lost a strong pillar, faqih, and scholar,” said Hezbollah.

It also lauded the role of the late cleric in the Assembly of Experts and the Guardians Council after the Islamic Revolution of Iran.

Hazbollah condoled the loss to the noble family of the cleric and the Muslim nation.

Meanwhile, secretary-general of the al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement Hojat-ol-Islam Akram al-Kaabi issued a message of condolence on the occasion of the demise of this great source of emulation, writing, “We learned of the death of Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi-Golpaygani with hearts full of sorrow and grief.”

“The pure soul of Grand Ayatollah Safi ascended after a blessed life full of generosity in the way of the religion of God, efforts to serve the people, as well as to meet their needs and improve their relations,” he wrote.

Hujjat al-Islam al-Kaabi described the prominent personality of this Shi’ah source of emulation by saying, “He was a source of emulation whose pure soul ascended after a blessed life full of generosity in the way of the religion of God, efforts to serve the people, as well as to meet their needs and improve their relations.”

“We offer our condolences to the noble family of this scholar and to the [other] honourable scholars and all the believers. We ask God Almighty to place this deceased in the throes of His mercy and to reunite him with His saints, Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad (peace be upon them). May God also grant great patience to the family, lovers and learned ones in the station of this source of emulation.”

A funeral procession is slated to be held today in Qom. The late scholar is slated to be buried in Iraq’s Karbala.
