Iran Int’l Quran Contest

Samih Ahmed Khalid al-Athamina, who serves as the supervisor of the 38th Iran International Quran Competition’s panel of judges, said it shows how important it is to organize the contest in any condition.

He said that with almost all people having access to the internet and online activities becoming common, there was no reason not to hold the international Quranic event online now that the pandemic has imposed some restrictions on in-person activities.

He described Iran’s international Quranic event as the “mother of Quran competitions”.

Athamina said he has not seen such comprehensiveness in other countries’ Quranic contests, noting that Iran’s is held for men, women, school students and the visually-impaired.

He also highlighted the presence of a large number of Quran experts in the panel of judges in Iran’s international Quranic event.

The final stage of Iran’s 38th international Quran competition kicked off in a ceremony in Tehran on Monday and winners will be announced at the closing ceremony on Saturday.

A total of 62 qaris and memorizers from 29 countries compete in this stage of the event, which is being held virtually.

Simultaneously, the 5th international Quran contest for the visually impaired, the 7th international Quran competition for school students, and the international Quran contest for women are also being held, virtually.

The participants have already recorded their performance and the panel of judges assesses them in the four days of the finals.

Elsewhere in his remarks Athamina noted that he has traveled to Iran 13 times to serve as member of arbiters panels in different international Quran competitions.

He noted that he currently heads a scholarly panel in Jordan tasked with supervising the printing of the Quran in the country.

He also said that he has three sons and two daughters, all of who are memorizers of the Quran.
