TEHRAN (IQNA) – A national Quran competition held for girls in Iraq wrapped up with a ceremony in which top winners received their awards.

The contest was organized by the Islamic University of Najaf on June 2-3 in the categories of Quran memorization, Tarteel and Tajweed, the website of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine reported.

Girls who study at Iraqi public and private universities were eligible to take part at the Quranic event.

In memorization, Fatima Hadi Ali, Zahra Sabah Hadi and Amani Hassan Abd Ali came first to third, according to Safa al-Silawi, an official with the Astan’s Dar-ol-Quran Center.

Silawi noted that all the winners were students of the Dar-ol-Quran Center of Basra.

In Tarteel and Tajweed, Tabarak Abdul Rahman Nasser bagged the top prize. The runner-up was Shakir Shinawa and the winner of the third title was Asawar Azhar Hamuda.  

The top winners will represent Iraq in an international Quran competition for women which is planned to be held in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
