TEHRAN (IQNA) – Religious and divine books have talked about the afterlife but some deny it and say these are old stories and myths. However, the Holy Quran has offered clear pictures of that world in different Surahs, including Surah Al-Jathiyah.

Surah Al-Jathiyah

The name of the 45th chapter of the Quran is Al-Jathiyah. It has 37 verses, is Makki and is in the 25th Juz. It is the 65th Surah revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The name of the Surah comes from the word Jathiyah in the 28th verse. It means kneeling down and this verse describes how people kneel down to receive their book (in which what they have done is recorded).

The purpose of this Surah is inviting all people to the religion of Tawheed (monotheism) and avoid the punishment that it warns about.

Surah Al-Jathiyah begins with the issue of Tawheed and then highlights the issue of prophethood and the need to follow messengers of God.

It also solemnly warns and threatens those who deny God’s signs and follow the whims of their Nafs (self) although they are aware of their deviation from the right path.

The Surah portrays an aspect of how disbelievers face Islamic invitation and their stubbornness in confronting the truth and following their worldly desires.

Surah Al-Jathiyah conveys an invitation to God for human beings. It offers reasons and logic as well as encouragements and warnings to guide people to the truth.

It refers to a group of sinners who conceitedly ignore or deny divine signs. It underlines that they will be severely punished on the Day of Judgment.

The Surah opens the path to guidance and citing some of God’s signs in heavens and earth calls on people to reflect. It also refers to the Resurrection Day and warns the deniers.

In Surah Al-Jathiyah the Day of Judgment has been drawn clearly. We see all groups of people who are waiting for their deeds to be evaluated. They receive their “book” in which all of their deeds in this world have been recorded.

Then the Surah divides people into two groups: the believers who receive divine reward and mercy and the disbelievers who face chastisement and their abode is hell.
