TEHRAN (IQNA) – It has been said in historical and religious sources that Satan was one of God’s special servants who had worshipped Him for a long time.

Surah Sad

However, due to one disobedience, he became accursed and damned. This is among the topics discussed in Surah Sad.

Sad is the 38th chapter of the Quran with 88 verses and is in the 23rd Juz of the Quran. It was the 38th Surah revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The name Sad comes from the disjoined letter Sad in the first verse of this chapter.

The content of this Surah is about invitation to monotheism and Ikhlas (purity of intention) by the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the obstinacy of the disbelievers, stories of some messengers of God, and descriptions of the situation of good-doers and evil-doers on the Day of Judgment.

It also includes a dialogue between God and Satan and the banishment and damnation of Satan.

The main subject in this Surah is the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) invitation to monotheism and Ikhlas with the Book that God has revealed to him.

It also highlights the importance and necessity to reflect on the Holy Quran and cites some remarks by disbelievers about the Holy Book.

The stories of nine prophets, including Davoud (David), Suleiman (AS), and Ayub (Job), are mentioned in Surah Sad.

It also names Ibrahim (AS), Ismail (AS), Ishaq (AS), Yaqub (Jacob), Elisha (AS) and Dhu al-Kifl (AS) as messengers and selected servants of God.

At the end of the Surah, the issue of creation of Adam and his sublime status is mentioned. The angels prostrate before him at the order of God but Satan disobeys God, citing his superior creation. Satan says he was created out of fire but man was created out of clay. He refuses to prostrate Adam and vows to try to lead mankind astray until the Day of Judgment.
