TEHRAN (IQNA) – Surah Al-Araf is the 7th chapter of the Quran, with 206 verses. It is in the 8th and 9th Juzes (parts) of the Holy Book.

Surah Al-A’raf

Surah Al-A’raf is a Makki chapter (has been revealed in Mecca) and is the 39th chapter revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

It was revealed at one of the hardest times for Muslims when they were under an economic blockade in Mecca

Like other Makki chapters, Surah Al-A’raf has verses about issues like creation, proving Tawheed (monotheism), confrontation with Shirk (polytheism), and status of man in the world of creation. Talking about the beginning of creation, it reminds mankind of the original covenant he made with God. The Surah also narrates the stories of people and prophets of God like Noah (AS), Lut (AS), and Shuaib (AS).

The main subjects mentioned in this Surah are the following:

Creation of Mankind

This Surah discusses in detail the creation of Adam and Eve – the first two humans, their deception by Satan, and their exit from Paradise, and how they started their life on Earth.

Closeness to Quran

This Surah describes the Quran as a Divine Book that is in line with special guidance and God’s special mercy for the world and refers to the Resurrection Day as the day of manifestation of the Quran’s Tafsir (interpretation).

Creation of Heavens and Earth

Story of Moses (AS)

The story of Prophet Moses (AS) has been mentioned in detail in this Surah. It first refers to what happened between him and the pharaoh and then elaborates on how Banu Israil treated Prophet Moses (AS).

Divine Covenants

It reminds mankind of the covenants made between man and God and introduces man as the one responsible for his faith and Shirkh. There are stories in this regard about prophets’ efforts to guide people to the right path.

Hereafter

The issue of the Resurrection Day is another topic mentioned in this Surah, which says no one but God knows when it will be.
