Iranian president attends Supreme Council of Hajj and Pilgrimage meeting

Speaking at a meeting of Iran’s Supreme Council of Hajj and Pilgrimage on Saturday, the president said there should be synergy and cooperation among the related organizations to provide services to the country’s Hajj pilgrims.

He said preparations and required measures should be made so that the pilgrims can make the most of the spiritual journey.

Raeisi tasked the related bodies to develop coordination and cooperation and fulfil their duties with synergy and coherence in providing services to the pilgrims.

He also highlighted the role of the Supreme Council of Hajj and Pilgrimage in advancing the affairs of the pilgrimage and said the council should draw a road map and organize the facilities to utilize all the capacities for best holding the pilgrimage.

During the meeting of the council, the measures required for next year’s Hajj as well as pilgrimage trips to holy sites in Iraq and Syria were discussed.

According to Head of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization Seyed Sadeq Hosseini, some 85,000 Iranians will participate in the Hajj this year.

That is the quota allocated to Iran by Saudi Arabia.

In 2022, Saudi Arabia received foreign pilgrims, including Iranians, for Hajj after two years of suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Figures show some 1.2 million Iranians are on a waiting list for travelling to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. They have been waiting for years for their turn.

Hajj is a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca that every able-bodied and financially able Muslim is obliged to undertake at least once during their lifetime.
