GAZA (IQNA) – A senior Hamas official has called on Muslim and Arab states to take to the streets on Friday to voice support for Palestine.

The leader of Hamas's diaspora office, Khaled Meshaal, has urged the Arab and Islamic world to hold protests on Friday in solidarity with the Palestinians and their resistance against Israel.

In a recorded statement, Meshaal said that Friday should be the "Friday of Al-Aqsa Flood", referring to the Palestinian operation that started on Saturday with a massive rocket attack on Israel.

“[We must] head to the squares and streets of the Arab and Islamic world on Friday, the Friday of Al Aqsa Flood,” he said.

The operation was a response to the Israeli violations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the increased aggression of the Israeli settlers in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Meshaal also called on the Palestinians living in the occupied territories to gather near the Al-Aqsa Mosque and prevent the settlers from entering the holy site, Al Jazeera reported.

The occupation regime has launched a counter-operation named "Iron Swords" and has been bombarding the Gaza Strip with airstrikes and artillery fire. According to the Palestinian health ministry, more than 970 Palestinians have been killed and over 5,000 have been injured by the Israeli attacks. Many buildings, homes, and public facilities have also been severely damaged by the Israeli bombardment.
