IQNA – The Kadhimiya Shrine north of Baghdad has been covered in black as the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Jawad (AS) approaches.

The Kadhimiya Shrine north of Baghdad was covered in black on May 23, 2025, as the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Jawad (AS) approaches.

 

The Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine, which houses the mausoleums of Imam Musa Kadhim (AS) and Imam Jawad (AS), carried out the ritual of changing the flags on Friday evening.

During the ceremony, the flags of the two mausoleums were replaced with black ones as a sign of mourning on the sad occasion.

It was attended by pilgrims and devotees of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) and included elegy recitations.

The 30th of the lunar Hirji month of Dhu al-Qi’dah, which falls on May 27 this year, marks the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Jawad (AS).

On this occasion, pilgrims and devotees of Ahl-ull-Bayt (AS) travel to the holy sites in Iraq, including the holy city of Kadhimiya, to mourn and hold commemorative ceremonies.
