At this meeting, Sharifani, a representative of the Office of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, welcomed the guests, including scholars, thinkers, and religious and cultural figures, and explained the various dimensions of the personality of martyr Raeisi and his role in defending the Holy Quran, Islamic unity, and the civilizational revival of the Islamic world.
Pointing to the wave of Quran burnings in 2023 in some European countries, including Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands, he emphasized that these actions were carried out in an atmosphere mixed with Islamophobia and with the support of some Western media outlets, which aimed to create hatred towards Islam and incite public opinion against Muslims.
Highlighting a speech delivered by Martyr Raeisi at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2023, Sharifani stated, “In a situation where a wave of insults to the Quran had spread in the Western world, he defended the sanctity of this divine book on the highest political platform in the world by holding the Holy Quran in his hand and clearly declaring that the Quran is the word of God and will not be destroyed by the fire of hatred and enmity.”
Another speaker at the meeting was Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi, who emphasized that such a great stance was not merely a political act or a temporary reaction, but rather was rooted in years of familiarity, faith, action, and adherence to the teachings of the Holy Quran.
He added that defending the Quran has levels and stages, and a person must go through the path of reading the Quran, understanding the Quran, familiarity with the Quran, acting on the Quran, and living with the Quran in order to achieve the position of defending the Quran.
Siti Fadilah Supari, a senior assistant to the Indonesian minister of religious affairs, also addressed the meeting, pointing out the need for Islamic revival and emphasizing that in order to regain its civilizational position, the Islamic world needs to return to authentic Islamic values, strengthen the unity of the Islamic Ummah, and benefit from the successful experiences of Islamic countries.
Referring to some of the achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the scientific, cultural, and civilizational fields, she emphasized the need to study and benefit from these experiences, as well as the importance of Islamic unity and avoiding sectarian differences.
