Official Announces More Details on Funeral Ceremonies of Martyred Leader in Iraq
Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian stated at a press conference on Tuesday that a committee has been formed in Iraq under the supervision of the country’s prime minister and in coordination with Iranian officials to ensure that the funeral procession and the official reception in Iraq are held at the highest possible level.
Pourjamshidian added that during a recent visit to Iraq accompanying Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, meetings were held with senior Iraqi officials including the president, the speaker of parliament, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and the chief of staff to the president, where full arrangements for the ceremonies were finalized.
He emphasized that one of the key objectives of holding such a grand ceremony is the renewed pledge of allegiance by the Islamic Ummah to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
He noted that the events in Iraq will be conducted at an exceptionally high and international level, reflecting the religious authority of the martyred Leader.
According to Pourjamshidian, the decision to hold part of the ceremonies in Iraq was strongly supported by both the organizing committee and the Leader’s household due to his recognized religious status.
He stated that Iraqi citizens, tribes, officials, and representatives have stressed the martyred Leader was their religious source of emulation and that they expected such ceremonies to be held.
He further explained that the martyred Leader had long wished to visit the shrines of Imam Ali (AS) and Imam Hussein (AS) during his lifetime, but circumstances had not allowed it.

“We hope that through these arrangements, his pure body will be taken for pilgrimage. Our martyred Leader is alive in the presence of God, and God willing, he will be honored with the visitation of the holy shrines," he said.
Iraqi officials had previously announced that the cities of Najaf and Karbala were fully prepared to host the ceremonies.
