84-Year-Old Priest Arrested by Metropolitan Police Over Support for Palestine Action

IQNA – An 84-year-old retired Anglican priest, Reverend Sue Parfitt, was among 14 people arrested outside Scotland Yard in London after expressing support for Palestine Action during a protest marking one year since the group was banned in the UK.

Organized by Defend Our Juries, the demonstration featured protesters holding banners reading "Saving Lives Is Not Terrorism." 

Parfitt told the crowd she supported Palestine Action because it had acted to disrupt the production of weapons used in the war in Gaza, before being arrested under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act.

The Metropolitan Police said expressing support for the proscribed organization is a criminal offence under UK law, and confirmed that 14 arrests were made.

Defend Our Juries criticized the arrests as an escalation in the government's response to peaceful protest and argued that opposition to the war in Gaza should not be criminalized.
