“From Leftism to Patriotism” is the title of the book by Fabien Engelmann, mayor of the eastern town of Hayanges, according to directmatin website.
Member of the far-right National Front Party has insulted Islam, the Holy Quran and Muslims in his book.
He has claimed that Muslims are backward and have remained in the past and that they have made no progress in democracy.
The far-right politician has also described Islam as “not a religion but a reactionary cult that opposes democracy”.
Elsewhere in his book, Engelmann has praised the Islamophobic moves by the Dutch extremist politician Geert Wilders.
Wilders’ anti-Islamic film titled Fitna (sedition), which desecrates the Holy Quran, sparked widespread protests among Muslims around the world as well as some non-Muslims.
Engelmann has also attacked Muslim immigrants in his book, saying that the new generation of Muslim immigrants have come to Europe to receive social aid and money without working for money and that they seek to “impose their Medieval religious ideas on us”.
France’s Muslims and Islamic institutions say they have been surprised by the far-right politician’s insulting remarks and that they will sue him over insulting Muslims and provoking hatred against the followers of a Divine faith.
France is home to nearly six million Muslims and, thus, has the largest Muslim population in Western Europe.
