TEHRAN (IQNA) – The daughter of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha’abi, said her father and Iranian commander General Qassem Soleimani deserved martyrdom.

“Sometimes when I looked at the two, I told myself they deserve achieving martyrdom,” Menar Ibrahimi told IQNA in an interview a day after her father and General Soleimani were killed in a US airstrike in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.

“But which one of them will be martyred first? I would ask myself. Then I would pray that they would both be martyred together or at least my father be martyred first because he could not bear being separated from Hajj Qassem (Soleimani).”

She added that al-Muhandis was in contact with many people but he said himself that no one was so close to him than Hajj Qassem.

“It was because Hajj Qassem was a pure and pious man. The relation these tow had with God led to their close friendship.”

Menar added that to her father, General Soleimani was like a brother.

She also highlighted the role that General Soleimani and her father played in defeating the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group and said, “My father said that in 2014 (when Daesh invaded the Arab country) all the world turned their back on Iraq except Iran that extended its hand of support to Iraq”.

General Soleimani, al-Muhandis, and a number of their entourage were killed in the strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of Friday.

The Pentagon said in a statement on Friday that President Donald Trump had ordered the US military to assassinate the top Iranian commander.

Iran has warned that “harsh revenge" is waiting for the US following the strike that killed the leader of the Quds Force.
