Unity A Must for Muslim Ummah
“The power and independence of Muslims rely on their unity and hence realization of this unity is a must,” Nureddin Abu Lahya told IQNA.
There is a need for Muslims to come together in different fields such as culture, politics, and economics, he said, adding that unity has different criteria including popular unity which is unity among Muslim nations, and intellectual unity which is having a common thought, economic unity which is using joint economic capacities to achieve the aims of Muslim Ummah, and political unity which is having unified political governance or existence of Islamic coalitions.
According to the scholar, the Muslim Ummah is facing internal and external challenges on the path to achieving unity
He named sectarianism and surrendering to enemies as two internal challenges while referring to the domineering policies of the Arrogance and West’s racism as two of the external ones.
Elsewhere he praised a fatwa of Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei which forbids any insult to the sanctities of Sunni Muslims, saying that such a measure is aimed at preventing sedition and division.
The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on October 14 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.
The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.
Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
