TEHRAN (IQNA) – A prominent Iranian Quran teacher and interpreter says interpretations of the Holy Quran should be understandable to the public while also liked by the experts.

“One should not presume that the more complex an interpretation is, the more scientific will be the discussion,” Hojat-ol-Islam Mohsen Qara’ati told IQNA in a ceremony held to unveil a number of his books in mid-July.

Of course, he maintained, works of interpretation should be liked by the experts as well.

He noted that more than 150 types of Quran interpretations are needed as some of them have been authored by himself. Two university professors of law noted that they have discovered 2,600 points about the law in Tafsir Noor, added Qara’ati. Tafsir Noor is a comprehensive interpretation of the Quran written by Qara'ati.

“There are some aspects in the Quran which remain unknown. Even letters of the words in the Quran bear points; for instance, you can read the verse about wudhu to see how a letter plays role in understanding its concept,” he added.

The scholar also quoted a hadith by Imam Sadiq (AS) which notes that every page, word, and letter of the Quran bears special points. This shows the importance of reading and contemplating the Quran, added Qara’ati.

“For reading the Quran you need a plan. For instance, one can dedicate a few minutes every night to read Quran interpretation with family members.”

He also advised Muslims to learn one word or point of the Quran every day. “Do not forget that the Quran is sweet. We have not yet tasted it.”
