Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefat Ullah recorded Apurba Pal’s confessional statement on Sunday and subsequently ordered his detention in jail.
Court sources said Apurba was produced before the court after completing a five-day remand.
He voluntarily gave his confession, which was recorded following a petition filed by the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Chand Mia of Vatara Police Station. Earlier, on October 14, the court had approved his remand in connection with the case filed by SI Hasmat Ali.
The incident dates back to the night of October 4, when several videos allegedly showing Apurba making derogatory remarks about the Quran went viral on Facebook, triggering widespread public outrage.
