And Iranian Quran expert referred to the growing trend of the Karbala International Quran Award and said the competition is on the path to enhance its global position.
Haidar Kasmaei, a Quranic advisor to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine who headed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s delegation to the Fifth Karbala International Quran Award, told IQNA that the competition has achieved a significant position among international Quranic events over the past five years, and today, everyone from Quran reciters and memorizers to prominent judges are interested in participating in this competition; a path that can further enhance its global position.
He said this competition was initially held as a national event in Iraq, and later an international title was added to it.
“In the first three editions, it was held under the title of Islamic Countries’ Holy Shrines Competition, meaning that from the holy shrines inside and outside Iraq, each shrine introduced a reciter and a Quran memorizer to participate.”
Kasmaei added that later, the competition was held in a completely international format. “Last year, the registration of applicants was done through a public call in cyberspace, but this year the organizers officially sent letters to Quranic organizations and institutions of different countries, including the Iranian Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, and the invitations were made in written and official form.
Referring to the different categories of this edition, he noted that this year, in addition to reciting and memorizing the Quran, the imitation recitation category for teenagers was also added, and three teenage reciters from the Islamic Republic of Iran were present to compete in this category.
The Iranian Quranic figure considered the venue to be one of the most important features of this competition and said one of the special advantages of this event is that it is held inside the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), which is unique and even unprecedented in its kind.
He further highlighted the achievements of Iran’s representatives and said in this edition, “all of our country’s representatives succeeded in reaching the final stage and obtained the first to fifth places. In other words, all of the reciters, memorizers, and teenagers dispatched by the Islamic Republic of Iran succeeded in obtaining the rank, which is a great honor for the country's Quranic community.”
