Iraq’s PMU Begins Implementation of Arbaeen Pilgrimage Security Deployment Plan
Muhammad al-Asadi, the PMU Information Director in Najaf Province, said the special security deployment plan is part of the ongoing joint efforts to protect pilgrims and ensure the smooth movement of processions.
This plan includes the participation of forces from the 2nd Brigade, 42nd Brigade, 21st Brigade and 11th Brigade and the Special Missions Regiment, a regiment affiliated with the General Staff of the PMU and another regiment affiliated with this organization, and these units were deployed in the positions determined based on the security plan for this occasion, he stated.
Al-Asadi explained that the plan is implemented with excellent coordination of all security and service institutions and with full readiness to secure the pilgrims' routes.
The deployment of the PMU forces extends from the administrative border separating Diwaniyah province, passing through the city of Najaf and reaching the border separating Karbala province at Pillar 667, he noted.
The Iraqi official pointed out that this plan also includes ensuring the security and control of the 155-kilometer-long Eastern Trench and securing and protecting the pilgrims’ boarding areas, which ensures the smooth movement of pilgrims and maintaining their safety and health during the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

Arbaeen is a religious event observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam.
It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims, as well as many Sunnis and followers of other religions, walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. This year, the day of Arbaeen will fall on August 4.
