London Metropolitan Police said they are reviewing the video, which was posted on YouTube on Wednesday but was later removed.
"We're aware of the video reportedly released by al-Shebab. We are currently assessing its content. A number of individuals have been spoken to following the release of the video,” AFP quoted a police spokesman as saying.
At least four Muslim commentators said they were contacted by the police to be warned on the matter after they were named in the video for having “mutilated the teachings of Islam”.
"The basic [police] message... was that my life was in imminent danger from the terrorists," Ajmal Masroor, a London-based prayer leader, wrote on his Facebook page.
Other Muslim figures who said they received police warnings were Mohammad Ansar, a filmmaker and journalist, Commentator Mohammed Shafiq and Usama Hasan, a senior researcher for think tank Quilliam.
