Representative of Grand Ayatollah Sistani Visits Georgia’s Religious Centers
Hojat-ol-Islam Javad Shahrestani, head of Al-ul-Bayt (AS) Institute, visited religious and cultural centers in Georgia and met with the country’s archbishop.
According to IQNA’s branch in Central Asia, the public relations office of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization announced that Hojat-ol-Islam Shahrestan headed a delegation in a five-day trip to Georgia.
He was welcomed by the Iranian ambassador to Georgia, Iranian cultural attaché in Tbilisi as well as Georgian religious and local officials.
Strengthening the interfaith relations between Islam and Christianity was announced as the main objective of the delegation.
The representative also visited Shia and Christian centers in various cities of Georgia and talked to Muslim and Christian figures separately.
In a meeting with the representative, Ilia II, Georgia’s archbishop, considered his meeting with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution as one of the best events in his life and said that the cultural and historical relations between Iran and Georgia are rooted in the history of the two countries.
He expressed satisfaction over the promotion of relations between followers of the two Divine religions and considered Iran as a great country with a rich culture and civilization.
He also asked for the development of relations between Iranian seminary schools and Georgia’s religious centers.
The delegation also visited various mosques of the country and the greatest Charity Center of Christians during the trip which was concluded on September 5.
Al-ul-Bayt (AS) Institute officially opened its branch in Georgia in 2001 and the two countries have jointly held various cultural and scientific programs so far.
