TEHRAN (IQNA) – A number of international human rights organizations called on France to abandon its insistence on selling weapons to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a report titled “Arms Sales, France and UAE Partners in Crimes Committed in Yemen”, the NGOs said Paris should remember that the UAE uses the weapons in its crimes against the people of Yemen and violating international laws, Al-Maseerah reported.

They underlined that France must avoid selling or exporting any weapons that might be used to violate human rights.

The report said the UAE officials are directly or indirectly involved in serious infringements in Yemen, including torture, forced disappearances and attacks on hospitals and schools.

The UAE has been the fifth largest importer of weapons from France in the period between 2011 and 2020.

Abu Dhabi and Paris in early December signed an agreement based on which the former will buy 80 Dassault Rafale aircraft and cruise missiles from the latter.

The UAE is part of the Saudi-led coalition that has maintained a deadly aggression on Yemen since March 2015.
