
The competition is part of a series of programs of the International Quran Week organized by the Astan (custodianship) of the Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine.
The International Quran Week has been held with the participation of representatives of 30 Arab and Islamic countries.
The ceremony started with a recitation by prominent Egyptian qari Abdel Fattah Tarouti.
Distinguished Quranic figures from across the Islamic world and a large number of religious scholars, academics, representatives of the holy shrines and pilgrims to the Imam Hussein (AS) mausoleum attended the ceremony.
The competition will continue until the end of the International Quran Week of Karbala (Thursday) at the Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and from 8:30 to 10:00 PM local time every day.
According to Wissam Nazir al-Dulfi, head of the Quranic Media Center of Astan, the ceremony included speeches by Sayed Riadh al-Hakim, a seminary scholar, and Sheikh Khairuddin Ali al-Hadi, head of the Astan’s Dar-ul-Quran Center.
There was also the screening of a documentary film that depicted the history of the Karbala International Award and its previous editions, in which young international Quranic talents participated.

Ihab al-Maliki, one of the poets present, also recited a poem whose themes were inspired by the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Ghadir.
Al-Dulfi described the International Quran Week as one of the most prominent Quranic events held by the Astan, saying it brings together reciters and memorizers of the Holy Quran, as well as those interested in Quranic affairs from various Islamic countries through programs, competitions, and diverse intellectual and cultural activities.
