100,000 Register for Pilgrimage to Atabat

More than 100,000 individuals have registered their name to go on pilgrimage to Atabat (holy sites in Iraq).

Masoud Akhavan, director general of the Atabt department of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs Organization made the announcement, adding that the deadline for registration has been extended to Saturday, September 21.

The previous deadline was Friday, September 20, but many of those willing to register failed to meet the deadline because they were on trip during the final days of summer holiday.

He said those who want to register for the spiritual trip can visit http://atabat.haj.ir by midnight on Saturday.

Akhavan added that a draw will be held on Sunday, September 22, to determine the arrangement of pilgrimage.

He said the outcome of the draw will be announced by tomorrow afternoon.

Every year thousands of Iranians go to Atabat to visit the holy shrines of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in Karbala and the holy sites in Samarra and Kadhamayn.
