"Quran by Heart" Documentary in Fairfield
The Fairfield Library in Connecticut, the US, will host a showing of the HBO documentary "Quran by Heart" on Wednesday.
It will be hosted by Martin Nguyen, assistant professor of Islamic religious studies at Fairfield University.
The film examines an internal debate within Islam: whether to embrace modernity or to take a more fundamentalist approach using the vehicle of a Quran recitation competition as the entry point into the subject.
As the film gets deeper into the competitors’ stories, it shows families grappling with issues that Muslims and non-Muslims are dealing with all around the world.
After the film, Nguyen will lead a discussion. This free event is part of the library’s "Muslim Journeys" program.
