Designation of Bahrain as Host of Arab Human Rights Court Criticized

The Human Rights Watch has slammed the Arab League’s decision to choose Bahrain as host of the Arab human rights court.

Nicholas McGeehan, a Persian Gulf researcher with the Human Rights Watch said the selection of Bahrain as the court’s host will not conceal the fact that Bahrain has a dark record in terms of human rights.

Samira Rajab, Bahrain’s media affairs minister, has rebuffed the reaction, saying that it originates from political motivations.

Bahrain’s main opposition group al-Wefaq has also censured a decision by the Arab League to establish a human rights court in Manama, saying the Persian Gulf kingdom is the ‘black hole of human rights.’

On Wednesday, the al-Wefaq movement said designating the Manama regime to host the tribunal casts doubt on the credibility of the institution.
