Book-Reading Contest on Islamic Mysticism Planned in Sweden

On the occasion of Eid Al-Ghadir, a book reading contest on Islamic mysticism will be held on October 24 at Imam Mahdi School in Stockholm, Sweden.



According to IQNA’s branch in Europe, the competition will be organized by Imam Ali (AS) Islamic Center with the aim of disseminating the culture of book reading in the society and introducing Islamic mysticism to the people.


A book titled “God: Existence and Attributes” written by Mohammad Shomali has been selected as the source of the competition.


Referring to the verses of the Holy Quran and Hadiths, the book introduces human being as the successor of God on earth.


The competition will be held in written form in Swedish language and the first winner of the contest will be awarded Umrah pilgrimage by European Noor Agency.


Dr Mohammad Ali Shomali is a graduate of the Islamic Seminaries of Qom and has also a BA and an MA degree in Western Philosophy from the University of Tehran. He got his Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Manchester.


His publications include: Self-Knowledge (1996 & 2006, also translated into Malay, Spanish and Kiswahili), Ethical Relativism: An Analysis of the Foundations of Morality (2001, also translated into Malay), Shi‘a Islam: Origins, Faith & Practices (2003 & 2010; also translated into Spanish & Swedish), Principles of Jurisprudence: An Introduction to Methodology of Fiqh (2006).


He is a co-editor of Catholics & Shi'a in Dialogue: Studies in Theology & Spirituality (2004), Catholic-Shi'a Engagement: Reason & Faith in Theory and Practice (2006) and A Catholic-Shi‘a Dialogue: Ethics in Today’s Society (2008).
