This is according to Hussein Hamdan, a prominent Lebanese Quran expert who has served as a jury member in Iran’s International Quran Competition several times. In an interview with IQNA, he added that a jury member, just like a Qari or memorizer, needs to meet certain criteria and have certain capabilities to be invited to an international Quran competition.
He said jury members in recitation category ought to have mastery over the rules of Tajweed, Waqf, Ibtida and Lahn, among other things.
Asked about formation of an international committee by Muslim countries to selected Quran reciters and memorizers and jury members to be invited to international Quran contests, the Quran scholar hailed the idea and said such a committee could play a constructive role in elevating the quality of Quranic contests.
He underlined that creation of an international committee for selecting the jury members is a positive step in organizing Quran contests.
According to Mr. Hamdan, selecting jury members based on their expertise and skills will elevate the level of the contests and ensure more fairness in judgments.
He also underlined the importance of organizing international Quran competitions all over the world, especially in Muslim countries, saying it would help to enhance Muslim unity.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Lebanese Quran expert regarded the Islamic Republic of Iran’s International Quran Competition as one of the most successful in the world.

The Lebanese Quran reciter urged the organizers of Iran’s competition to benefit from the experiences of other countries to hold Iran’s contest even more successfully.
