Ayatollah Qabalan Criticizes Human Rights Violations in Bahrain

President of Lebanon’s Higher Shia Council Ayatollah Abdul-Amir Qabalan criticized the human rights violations in Bahrain.

He said immediate action is needed to put an end to the Al-e Khalifa regime’s violence against Bahraini people, Mir’at-ul-Bahrain website reported.

“The Bahraini regime must implement reforms before it faces collapse,” he said, adding that oppression and dictatorship should end in Bahrain and political prisoners should be freed as soon as possible.

Ayatollah Qabalan pointed to the responsibility of international organizations to stand up against violation of human rights in Bahrain and said the United Nations, Arab League, Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, and all human rights organizations should do something to free the Bahraini nation from oppression and injustice.

President of Lebanon’s Higher Shia Council further said that the rulers of Bahrain must realize that trampling on Bahraini people’s rights is unacceptable.

Bahrainis have been staging demonstrations since mid-February 2011, demanding political reform and a constitutional monarchy, a demand that later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the ruling Al-e Khalifa family following its brutal crackdown on popular protests.

Scores have been killed, many of them under torture while in custody, and thousands more detained since the popular uprising in Bahrain began.
