Winners of Quran competitions held during the Quranic Week in Karbala were honored at a ceremony on October 3.

According to the website of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine, the Shia Awqaf Department of Iraq had organized the Quranic week’s programs at the holy mausoleum.

The closing ceremony was held on Thursday, October 3, with the participation of Iraq’s internationally-known Quran reciters, religious scholars, Awqaf officials, and the contestants in the Quranic Week’s competitions.

Addressing the function, Adel Al-Kanani, director of Iraq’s National Quranic Sciences Center, underlined the need for more attention to Quranic activities and promoting the teachings of the Holy Book.

He noted that 1800 individuals from different provinces of Iraq took part in the Quran competition held during the Quranic Week.

Later in the program, top winners of different categories of the competition (memorization, recitation and interpretation) were awarded.
