The African country’s government has sent letters to officials of three mosques in the capital Luanda asking them to immediately evacuate the mosques, africaguinee website reported.
One Muslim leader said he has received an official letter from the government accusing Muslims of acting against the constitution and threatening that their mosques and places of worship will be destroyed.
He said even if some citizens have acted against the law or done something that runs counter to the government agenda, it is unjustifiable to threaten to destroy places of worship.
The Muslim leader said he had never come across a government making such threats against its citizens that follow a special faith.
Angolan Muslims have so far raised $35000 to save the mosques and if but tehland on which the mosques have been built.
Security officials and army soldiers entered the Zango region earlier this week to destroy a mosque there but retreated after facing public opposition.
Angola is a country in South West Africa where the majority of the population is Christian. Muslims comprise around 3 percent of Angola’s overall population of 17 million people.
