Mariwan Naqshbandi, an official with the Awqaf and Religious Affairs Department in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region made the announcement, adding that the new rendering has been provided with the cooperation of Kurd researchers who worked to find equivalents of Quranic words in Kurdish.
He said the translation will be published by the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran in Medina.
Copies of the rendition will be gifted to Kurdish-speaking Hajj pilgrims in the next Hajj season, he went on to say.
The Kurdish people are an ethnic group in Western Asia, mostly inhabiting a region known as Kurdistan, which includes adjacent parts of Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey.
They are an Iranian people and speak the Kurdish languages, which are members of the Iranian branch of Indo-European languages.
